Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 19, 2026

1. Introduction

Saddle & Soil Foundation ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect your information when you visit our website, contact us, sign up for news, register for a program or event, apply to volunteer, or give.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Name, email address, phone number and mailing address
  • What you tell us in a form, a registration or a message
  • For participants: emergency contacts, and any allergy or physical limitation relevant to working safely around horses, livestock or farm equipment, provided with consent and used only to keep people safe
  • For volunteers: application details, and the results of any required background checks
  • For donors: gift amount, date and the details needed for a receipt. Card details are handled by our payment processor; we never see or store your full card number.

Information collected automatically

  • IP address, browser type, device and operating system
  • Pages visited and time spent on our website
  • The website or campaign that referred you

3. How we use your information

  • Run our programs, events and registrations
  • Process donations and send receipts
  • Reply to you, and send reminders about things you signed up for
  • Send occasional news by email, only if you ticked the box
  • Keep participants, volunteers, animals and the land safe
  • Improve our website
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Text messages

If you give us a mobile number and tick a text message consent box, we may text you about the inquiry, registration, application or gift you sent us (transactional) or, if you also agree, with occasional news about programs, events and ways to give (promotional, up to 4 messages a month). Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help and STOP to stop at any time. Consent is never a condition of registering, volunteering or giving.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

5. Information sharing

We may share your information with:

  • Service providers who run our website, forms, email, scheduling and payments on our behalf, under contract and only to provide those services
  • Legal authorities when required by law, including mandated reports about a child's safety
  • Emergency services or healthcare providers in a medical emergency during a program

We do not sell, trade or rent your personal information, and we never sell, rent or exchange donor lists. California residents may ask, under Civil Code section 1798.83, for details of any personal information we shared with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.

6. Data security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

7. Your choices and rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it (subject to legal requirements such as donation records), opt out of emails and texts at any time, and withdraw consent where we rely on it.

8. Cookies

Our website uses essential cookies to work and may use cookies that measure how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features may then not work.

9. Children's privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without the consent of a parent or guardian. Young people take part in our programs only when signed up by a parent, guardian, school or organization, and we collect only what is needed for participation and safety. We do not publish photographs in which a young person can be identified without signed consent from a parent or guardian.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will post the new version on this page and change the "Last updated" date.
